Biographie

Karine Babajanyan was born in Yerevan,Armenia. She studied singing at the State Conservatory Yerevan with Prof.Tatevik Sazandaryan , furthering her studies in Rome with Mirella Parutto.
In 1996,she won the A.Isahakian Song Contest, the Austro-German Music Contest and in 1998 – “Competizione Dell Opera” in Hamburg.

Since 1999, the soprano has been living in Germany.
She has sung with the festivals of Bregenz, Baden-Baden, Ruhr Trienale, Schleswig -Holstein, Rheingau, Praga Autumn, Miskolc International Festival and the NHK Symphony Orchestra in concerts broadcast live from Suntory Hall in Tokio. Her opera house appearances include Mexico City Opera, Tokyo New National Opera, Basel and Bern in Switzerland, Graz in Austria, Berlin, Hamburg, Essen, Hannover, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Tel Aviv-New Israeli Opera and Antwerp-Vlaamse Opera.

Karine Babajanyan’s richly varied repertoire includes more than 20 roles such as Butterfly, Tosca, Leonora (Il Trovatore),Norma, Mimi (La Boheme), Maddalena (Andrea Chenier), Amelia (Un ballo in mascera), Leonora (La forza del destino), Desdemona (Otello), Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), Fiordiligi (Cosi fan tutte), Contessa (Le nozze di Figaro) Elettra (Idomeneo), Nedda (I Pagliaci), Tatiana (Eugene Onegin), Jenufa and Manon Lescaut.
The jornal Opernwelt nominated her in 2001 as singer of the year for her Manon Lescaut and her Cio-Cio-San.
